Wildlife Watching
Wildlife watching is considered to be a passive, non-consumptive aspect of wildlife tourism and involves observing and/or taking photos of the target (animal) species, rather than the active, consumptive alternatives, e.g. hunting. Visiting zoological institutions is also often seen as wildlife watching tourism; however, the term ‘wildlife watching tourism’ rather focuses on animals in their natural habitat.

Short excursions, such as whale-watching day trips, have become a mainstream tourism activity and are believed to contribute to environmental awareness raising and subsequently to the conservation of species as well as providing employment for many local communities.
